Anyone who has seen the movie Grown Ups knows what I'm talking about. If you haven't seen it then you should watch it, it's a really funny movie and has a great cast! Recently I had a pretty serious chocolate craving and had the awesome idea to create a Chocolate Wasted cake after seeing something similar while browsing the web. And I knew exactly what to do to make this cake the ultimate chocolate wasted cake.
Just look at that baby...chocolate coma. I started out with 2 layers of chocolate cake that I then torted to make a total of 4 layers. (If you're looking for a great chocolate cake recipe, check out the Barefoot Contessa's chocolate cake, it's delish!) Then I filled it with chocolate ganache & chocolate buttercream. I frosted it with more chocolate buttercream and covered the sides with mini chocolate chips. (Yum!)
To do this, just take handfuls of chocolate chips and press them up on the sides of the cake. This can get messy though, so make sure you have a way to catch the stray chocolate chips that fall back on the counter! I used a bowl underneath my cake stand to catch the chocolate chips that fell. Although, next time I think I might use chocolate shavings or regular sized chocolate chips to get a more complete coverage. Either way, it tastes good!!
Then I topped the cake with more chocolate ganache, chopped Snicker's, mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, chopped Oreo's and melted chocolate. You can really do any combination of candy you prefer but this is what I had on hand and are 3 of my favorite candy's! And with Valentine's Day coming up, this would be a great way to use up some Valentine's Day candy or chocolates. This cake is most definitely for the serious chocoholic. And it's so easy to make! Whip one up for your chocolate loving sweetie on Valentine's Day! or heck, chocolate is good any day. :)
